10 Things To Do 30 Days Before Your Wedding Day…

10 Things To Do 30 Days Before Your Wedding Day…

Hello Kids...
I’m back again with some help for the last 30 days of waiting before the big walk down the aisle. Tomorrow is June 23rd exactly 30 days from my July 23rd wedding. In preparation for my big day I have set out a list of the top 10 things I need to get done over the course of this month. Check out my list and see if there’s anything you would add…all additions are welcome in the comments section!!!

# 10 – Pick the music: at this point most of the details have been hammered out but the music for the wedding ceremony and reception is often a last minute detail. Take the time to make your playlists in advance that way you can enjoy the music selection process without the stress of a super tight deadline.

# 9 – Try on the dress: for me it’s been well over 2 months since the dress was matched to the perfect pair of shoes. This is a great time to check the fit make sure there will be no need for last minute alterations.

# 8 – Get the rings cleaned: My engagement ring has been through a lot since I first got it. Now is the time to make sure you can get it cleaned and repaired if need be in time for the big day.

#7 – Start dreaming about the honeymoon: with the majority of wedding details out of the way now is a great time to day dream about your honeymoon and to begin making a list of plans for that special trip.

# 6 – Check the airline website: make sure you are up to date on the TSA regulations and airline restrictions. Make sure to plan for the possibility of added fees for checking baggage and the need to arrive early in order to process checked baggage.

# 5 – Find a house or pet sitter: since your beloved pets will likely not be attending you Vegas Wedding (or other destination wedding) make sure you have your pet sitter all lined up and if you are boarding your pet now is a great time to make a preliminary in person visit. If you are having someone stay at your home make plans for key tradeoffs and make sure to have them over to get the lay of the land.

# 4 – Check-in with guests: make sure all of your guests have booked their travel arrangements and that they don’t need any help find the perfect hotel, flight or rental car. For us this was key since we are the “Vegas Experts” and most of our guests have never been before. Your guests many need a bit of help booking travel to a destination that offers tons of options.

# 3 – Break in the shoes: if you’re like me you got fabulous new shoes for the wedding. Nothing hurts this fabulous feeling like blisters. Make sure to wear your shoes around the house as much as possible over the next 30 days. Find the potential blister spots and get a blister balm if needed.

# 2 – Pay household bills in advance: one thing we tend to neglect while hyper-focused on our wedding is the everyday things. Just because you’re away for your wedding or your honeymoon doesn’t mean that the bills still won’t be due on the normal day they have always been due. I highly suggest paying off the bills that will be due while you’re away celebrating in advance. Coming home to late fees is never fun.

# 1 – Prep your body, skin, hair and nails for the big day: there is a lot going on over the next 30 days but one simple change will help your body be ready and at its best for the big day. WATER!!! Cut out all drinks but water…hydration is key to keeping your body in tip-top shape, it makes hair shiny, nail strong and skin supple. Drink water, yes plain water for the next 30 days. It’s the hardest thing on this list to pull off but the results are totally worth it. And just think all the money you save on not buying sugary drinks can be used towards your honeymoon!!!  By the way diet drinks do not get a pass they are just as bad for your body…water is the way to go.

Thanks so much for stopping by…feel free to add you 30 day to do lists in the comments section…we’d love to hear from you!!!

Family Friendly Vegas…

Hello Kids…

Here I am again with more fun insights for you about Vegas and the awesome wedding options there. Today I’d like to share with you a glimpse of the family friendly side of Las Vegas. One issue that seems to be inescapable is the idea that Vegas is only for adults. I have encouraged my friends and family to bring their children out for our wedding because the truth is Vegas is a family friendly destination. On my last trip I took the time to visit both the Natural History Museum and the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum which both promote friendly and educational experiences for children and families. Not only are there local museums to share with your children but there are also family friendly wedding venues as well as restaurants and hotels. Check out our favorite family friendly spots in Vegas…

The Place to Marry:

If your dream wedding includes a few kids we highly suggest Vegas Weddings. Not only do they have tons of options for wedding locations but the staff is super friendly. Any chapel can help you to include children but Vegas Weddings really offers the best customer service in town which makes it much easier to bring the little ones along. From easy access to restrooms and comfortable chapel seating I highly suggest using Vegas Wedding for ceremonies with children involved or attending. To be honest I recommend Vegas Weddings to anyone, for any type of ceremony they are the best in town!!!

The Place to Eat:

The Las Vegas Strip offers some of the best food in the world but not all of those amazing eateries are child friendly. If you’re looking for a good meal where you children will be welcomed I highly suggest Holsteins inside the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino. The menu is fresh and new but has something to offer everyone and if your kids finish all their food they might be treated for a tiny cowbell by the staff. Everyone at Holsteins is amazing they are always polite and happy to help. The big plus is you cannot go wrong with burgers and shakes; the food is top notch but not anything that your kids will be afraid to eat.

The Place to Sleep:

Hands down I highly suggest Excalibur Hotel and Casino for families. Who doesn’t want to stay the night in a castle? Excalibur offers a rare bit of the Vegas I knew as a kid…the carnival midway. The basement of Excalibur still houses a midway for kids complete with motion simulated movie rides and carnival games. It’s the perfect place to have an evening of family fun. The games are all pretty easy and offer prizes for the kids to take home…be warned you may need an extra suitcase for all the goodies your kids will get!!!

The Places for Educational Fun:

I simply could not decide between these two both offer great family experiences and are just a short drive past the Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas Natural History Museum is a hidden gem. They have a huge collection of exotic taxidermy animals. Your kids can get closer than ever to lions, hippos and birds of prey to name a few. To top it all off there is a GREAT section all about dinosaurs and a replica of ancient Egypt to finish off the tour. Once you’ve finished for history lesson you can check out the Lied Discovery Children’s Museum. The Lied Museum offers a wonderful hands-on experience for children. They can learn about everything from banking to nutrition by engaging with the exhibits there. Another unique attribute of this museum is the policy that adults may not enter unless accompanied by a child, the museum is for children and you must have a child with you to enter. Both museums are great places to visit with so much to offer both local and traveling families.

Overall these are just a handful of family friendly Vegas options. Whether you’ll be in Vegas for a wedding or just for fun feel free to ask us any questions about family friendly places to visit. Las Vegas has much more to offer than meets the eye so please don’t be afraid to share some neon with your kids!!!

2012: The Year of Love…

Hello Kids…

We are finally here; the end of another year, the beginning of a new chapter, and a new four digit number to mark our memories with. I began to write this years final blog as a retrospective of 2011: my four trips to Vegas, the wedding planning lessons, and the people and places that are making this whole dream Vegas Wedding of mine possible. But then I remembered that 2011 was only the beginning, the important moment is coming in 2012, the moment when I mark a memory with a wedding date ended in those four numbers. The day when I promise my love to one person until we both escape the shores of time, and even beyond that to the eternity that awaits us on the other side. That date is what has driven all of my 2011 adventures.

Instead of looking back then, I ask us all to look forward and to hope for a year of LOVE in 2012. Not just love between my husband-to-be and I, or between the other happy couples out there, but love between people; human beings. We so often forget that at some point long ago in the distant past our spouses were strangers to us. Then we get to our wedding day or our 50th anniversary and we see the love we’ve built in all its glory. Perhaps this year we all should resolve to see the love everyday, to watch it accumulate in our lives, and in the lives of others. Celebrate the big days, have the bright weddings, renew your love and the vows that sealed it, but please do not forget the everyday accumulation of love. My hope is that we all can make a resolution to offer one extra smile, one more kind word, or one more charitable act this year. Let's accumulate love around us always and remember it every day this coming year.

I’d like to end by thanking one very special person, and one very special group of people. First, I’d like to thank my Husband-to-be for loving me, encouraging me and never hiding from life’s adventures. Second, I’d like to thank the staff at Vegas Weddings for all of their help. Vegas Weddings has been there to take care of the details, so that I could take care of things back here at home. My 2012 wedding, and the love it will mark, wouldn’t be possible without my Husband-to-be or the superhero wedding staff at Vegas Weddings. Thank you all so much and HAPPY 2012!!!

Wedding Questions...Asked and Answered...

Hello Kids...

It's been a very busy fall so far and as my Vegas Wedding gets closer I keep running into questions from friends, family and even strangers. I thought it might be a great idea to offer all of you some answers to a few of these questions. I'm not yet a wedding expert so I made sure to find someone I could trust to answer these questions. Ann over at Vegas Weddings took the time to answer these for me...

Q1 - Is it appropriate for the Mother of the Bride to wear black?

A1 - I think anything goes and Black & white are popular colors now, so yes, I think it's ok.

Q2 - What are your thoughts on cash bars at wedding receptions? Are they okay or are they in poor taste?

A2 - Cash bars are very common now. Sometimes they host for an hour or so then switch to cash. I know it used to be frowned upon years ago, but I think with the expense of a wedding, many feel it's perfectly ok. I suppose the more expensive the venue, the less you'll see it, though. If they can afford Mandalay Bay or the Venetian for a reception, it would seem like they could afford to host the bar... But if they are on more of a budget and making the most of what they have, guests understand.

Q3 - Is a cake punch reception really okay for a Las Vegas destination wedding?

A3 - Definitely! It can be the pre-party where you have wedding traditions observed before the real party begins!

Q4 - Any tips on how to keep my tears under control on my daughter's wedding day? I'm really afraid I'm going to be a sobbing wreck when I see her walk down the aisle.

A4 - Wow...I'm with you...I'd be a sobbing wreck, too! I would just try to concentrate on your feet, the flowers, the windows, the laundry, dishes, your oil change you may need, anything but what you're doing. Try to take your mind away to somewhere else. Then watch the video at home with your tissue box! You can also fold and tuck tissues into your bouquet if you are carrying one. Good luck with that! I'm tearing up typing this!

I really have to give a BIG THANKS to Vegas Weddings they are not only helping to make my wedding day fabulous but they are also here by email or phone to answer all of my questions along the way!!! If you have any burning questions feel free to send them my way…I’ll be sure to get the best answers I can find!!!

# 1…

Hello Kids…

Today is the tenth and final day of the “10 ‘Must Sees’ During Your Wedding Visit to Las Vegas” blog series. Each day we introduced you to a fun Vegas experience that everyone should check out for a great Wedding Visit to Vegas. Without further ado…

# 1…

Absinthe is the BEST show on The Vegas Strip. Absinthe pairs humor (yes, adult humor) with world-class acrobatics and does so about a foot away for the audience. The show is located within the outdoor Spiegelworld complex outside of Caesars Palace. The experience is one of a kind. Between the atmosphere and the cast Absinthe goes above and beyond the typical Vegas show experience. From the moment you grab a drink in the beer garden to the moment you exit the air-conditioned velvet lined tent you are not in Vegas you are immersed in Spiegelworld. I highly suggest purchasing VIP tickets if only for the experience of entering the VIP room via a green telephone booth. You cannot find a more intimate and exciting show experience anywhere in Las Vegas. Absinthe is also a “Must See” because it’s running on a limited engagement and is set to end on Sept. 18th 2011. If you take in one show make it Absinthe!!!

# 2...

Hello Kids…

Today is the ninth day of the “10 ‘Must Sees’ During Your Wedding Visit to Las Vegas” blog series. Each day we will introduce you to a fun Vegas experience that everyone should check out for a great Wedding Visit to Vegas. Without further ado…

# 2…

If you want a fun and classy Vegas location to have the ultimate Vegas drink experience then you must visit The Chandelier located inside The Cosmopolitan. The Chandelier offers unique and custom tailored cocktails on each of it’s three floors. My personal favorite is a drink that’s not even offered on the menu, The Verbena. What makes The Verbena so special is the garnish a little flower called a “buzz button”. Alone the drink is flavorful and very tasty with the addition of the “buzz button” there is a totally new dimension added. The Verbena at first sip has a delightful taste. Upon a second taste (after sampling the “buzz button”) it is a drink with sensation, yes actual physical sensation. The mixologist at The Chandelier has made a drink that is both a taste and sensation adventure. It is by far the BEST drink in Vegas. The rest of the menu is equally as inventive and unique. The atmosphere is out of this world. Overall The Chandelier is the best example of drink experience that is perfectly balanced with class, fun and flavor.

Stop back tomorrow for # 1 in our “10 ‘Must Sees’ During Your Wedding Visit to Las Vegas” blog series.
