Chocolate What???

Hello Kids...

Welcome back to another fun filled blog about my Vegas wedding journey. The wedding planning is currently coasting because I'm back in school. Small things get done here and there but nothing major has happened since my last post. Tonight I want to talk about Valentine's Day. Yes, the upcoming holiday where happy couples give the same old flowers and candy to one another. I have never been big on Valentine's Day nor do I like flowers or boxes of assorted chocolates. I know you're thinking, what's not to like about flowers and assorted chocolates? Flowers in my opinion are a waste of money unless they are still alive. Long stem roses are going to die in a few days and are not worth the money in my book. Therefore I have a "No Flower" rule and my fiancé is great about finding ways to celebrate this holiday without paying for the honor of killing plants for me. Assorted Chocolates are a problem because I throw half of them out. I will always love a cute box of Carmel Turtles but give me a milk chocolate filled with raspberry crème and you can watch me make a weird face before running to the trash can. All of this leads me to tonight’s topic, awesome and untraditional Valentine's Day candy!!! If you are looking for something to get that someone special here are my delicious and unusual suggestions.

Chocolate...

* Chocolate Covered Bacon

* Chocolate Covered Potato Chips

* Red Fire Chocolate Tortilla Chips

* Bacon Carmel Toffee

* Chocolate covered gummy bears

And other yummy treats...

* Gummy Organs Heart

* Bacon Carmel Toffee

* Marshmallow Flowers

* Maple Sugar Hearts

* Warheads Candy Heart

If your special someone would like a break from tradition any of these treats would be great. But if these seem too risky feel free to take my share of the flowers and assorted chocolates this Valentine's Day and pass them along to your sweetie. Please feel free to tell me about your favorite traditional or unusual Valentine's Day Candy or Gift :)

Another Day, Another Dollar...

Hello Kids...

Today was a busy day in Grad School Land so I didn't get any wedding planning done. Some day’s school just takes up all my time. I was able to pick up an extra shift this week at my restaurant job so that will be helpful and my ebay selling is in full swing.

Making money for the bills plus wedding savings is a tough task. I have been trying to find more part time work and I am taking a load of spring and summer clothing to the consignment shop tomorrow. Of all the wedding planning I do I spend more time planning how to make money than anything else. I have a goal of saving $16-$17 dollars a day by cutting costs to help come up with 10 Thousand Dollars and that is proving to be a very hard task. But I have come up with some money saving tips to help all of those budget brides out there.

Tips...

*Combine trips to save gas, plot errands by distance and stay as close to home as possible. Just make fewer trips.

*Cut the name brands, from gas to soda go generic and put those pennies back for the wedding.

*Start a bank account just for the wedding. That way you don't mix up your savings and spend the wedding money on other things.

*Cut out your daily splurge (Coffee House Caffeine Fix, Gossip Magazine, King-Size Candy Bars)

*Cut out that extra bath or shower, pack the dishwasher and washing machine full rather then doing lots of small loads.

These are just a start, cutting back anywhere possible and selling whatever you have not used recently will also help. Remember that cleaning out the attic or garage may bring in money. There's so much we don't use that can be turned into wedding savings.

That's all for tonight kids. I hope these tips are helpful, check back for more tips and wedding adventures. And as always please take a look at our online interests below. 1 Year, 7 Months & 3 Days!!!

The Perfect Chapel...

Hello Kids...

Welcome to another fun filled blog about my journey towards my fabulous Vegas wedding. We have finally settled on our wedding chapel. After many trips to visit Vegas wedding venues and the array of experiences that comes with each venue we have chosen our chapel. And our chapel is...Drum Roll Please...Vegas Weddings!!! With the amazing staff, beautiful chapel and great location Vegas Weddings was an easy choice.

The Chapel Run Down...

We found this chapel mostly on accident. I had read fabulous reviews about Vegas Weddings but was unaware that they had a new chapel right around the corner from the marriage license office. We found this gorgeous new chapel while we were following a bus with an M&M wrap trying to take a picture of it...yes a silly way to find a chapel but I'm so glad we followed that bus. From the outside the chapel looks like a historic building with lovely stonework, I was surprised to discover it was only 18 months old. The building offers not only a lovely chapel but also the now legendary Vegas Drive-Thru Wedding option. We will be using the chapel upstairs that features stained glass windows, lovely decor and pews rather then chairs for guests. The pews and the stained glass really did it for me, we wanted something totally Vegas but without losing the whole feel of a nice church wedding. Vegas Weddings offers the perfect balance for us.

Enough about the building let me tell you about the staff, everyone we have spoken to there has been totally dedicated to helping me plan my wedding. I've now spoken with about 5 different people at Vegas Weddings both on the phone and in person. Each and every one of them was 100% ready to help. They answered every question I had from upgraded flower estimates to sharing DVD's of sample ceremonies with me. Vegas Weddings gets an A+ and two thumbs up for customer service!!!

Of course as I can guess all of you Vegas Brides out there want to know the price tag for a top-notch wedding with Vegas Weddings. Well, I'm glad to tell you that they have a package for every budget. The packages currently range from $199 to $2,799. They are also very helpful if there are things you need to add to the package you have chosen. My experience has been that Vegas Weddings will make sure to help you get every detail of your wedding taken care of so your big day can be smooth and enjoyable. I honestly cannot wait to have my wedding here. I feel confident that my day will be beautiful because the amazing staff at Vegas Weddings is ready to help me relax and enjoy my big day.

For those of you who have already walked down the aisle and want to commemorate your long-standing love with a vow renewal I can also recommend Vegas Weddings to you. Whether a vow renewal or your first wedding, these ceremonies are about love. Vegas Weddings is dedicated to helping you celebrate your love in beautiful ceremonies.

Okay, okay, I know I'm gushing about the chapel but really I'm beyond happy that I found this place. It's a great balance of Vegas with a traditional feel and the one on one service that makes me feel 100% confident in my wedding venue choice. Cake Toppers...

Hello Kids...

As many of you know by now I'm not following an exact order or science when planning my wedding. I'm tackling the things I can when the time allows. The cake topper was one of those things I was able to take care of without taking too much time out of school. In fact after some searches, a few emails and two ebay purchases I had configured the perfect Tiny Bride and Groom for our cake.

To Top It All Off...

We have Bill and Erica Lego Mini-Figures!!! These little Lego figures were always part of the plan, however the other ideas for my cake topper didn't work out so well. Originally we wanted a Las Vegas sign made out of Legos for the Bride and Groom to stand under, this fabulous idea was put to rest after being shown the $1500 price tag for the Las Vegas Sign in Legos. The next fabulous and more cost effective idea was to have a retro neon sign to top the cake with our Mini-Figures, however due to weight that option had to be put aside as a possible table center piece rather then a cake topper. Which left us with only the Mini-Figures to seek out; we think the baker will find away to make them look great on the cake. The Mini-Figures in total required 1 phone call to Lego and 2 ebay purchases. Once we had the pieces I simply swapped out a few parts and then we had Bill and Erica the Lego Bride and Groom.

Now that I can check Cake Topper off my To Do list I'm one step closer to my dream of a Vegas Wedding complete with a few Legos for good measure. In 1 Year, 7 Months & 5 Days I will be a Vegas Bride!!!

If you enjoy my blog and would like to help us raise 10 Thousand Dollars for our Vegas wedding please consider making a donation through our PayPal donations button. Or by making a purchase from one of our online interests listed below. Thanks for all the support and love :)

Getting the DRESS!!!

Hello Kids...

So tonight I'd like to talk about dress shopping. I have never liked Bridal stores, I had no desire to try on dresses so I didn't. I fell in love with a Sue Wong dress I found online and ordered it. It was a simple transaction and the dress is just lovely. For months even before my engagement ring was complete my dress sat hidden away in the closet and I was more then content with that. But as with many other aspects of life one trip to Vegas can change that content feeling. Perhaps it's the feeling of being able to have everything you want in a 7 mile stretch of neon desert or maybe it wasn't Vegas magic at all, maybe it was simply that I needed a second wedding dress?!?

The story of how I ended up with what we new call my Wedding Dress and my Reception Dress started with a very nice email. After getting on a Vegas Wedding email list of one kind or another I started receiving emails for all over the place. This email was a simple invitation to stop into the Jessica McClintock store at Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas. So while waiting for dinner to roll around my Mom and I went in for a look. We looked around a bit and then my Mom found THE DRESS, only at that point I just thought it was too much money and I didn't wanna try anything. But of course to give Mom her "daughter trying on dress moment" I agreed. Once I had the dress all zipped up I started shaking and then Mom saw me and she almost cried. Yep we were so not getting out of that store with out this dress. The issue being the price tag, it was something like 8 times the price of my original dress. However with some generous help from the staff at Jessica McClintock and my Grandmother some 2000 miles away I was able to get my dress. And it is more then I had ever expected, it really is perfect. I guess the real point here is to say that dress shopping isn't all that bad, if you can count one amazing visit to Jessica McClintock dress shopping :)

To all of you Vegas Brides out there please give the Jessica McClintock store at Fashion Show Mall a try, they have an amazing staff and a dress for every Bride that will make you feel just perfect!!!

Well that's all for this evening...1 Year, 7 Months and 6 Days.

The Engagement Story

Hello Kids...

After a few days of blogging I suddenly realized that unless you know me and my fabulous fiancé you probably don't know the incredible story of our engagement. I think it's time to share that special story with all of you :)

The Engagement Story...

The pictures I've posted tell much of the story but it's not complete without a place to set it in. On Nov. 18th 2010 Bill and I set out for a nice dinner at the Opryland Hotel...little did we know it was the night of the tree lighting. And little did I know the surprise he was carrying in a brown bag was not a Birthday Present. We had dinner, walked around a bunch and had fun enjoying the Opryland Hotel with all of its fabulous Christmas lights. At some point we stop so Bill can go outside on one of the balconies to smoke...I sat inside where it was warm to call my Mom. A few minutes later he comes inside and tells me I have to come outside...which I was hesitant to do because of the cold and because he had a blind-fold for me. He takes me out on to the balcony and I remove the blind-fold to find the Lego Holiday Toy Shop Set all set up on the brick balcony...I was so excited by the Lego that it took me a few minutes to find the ring in the hands of a little Lego mini-figure. I promptly took the photos I've provided here then dropped the ring (yep that was embarrassing). It was just perfect...my fiancé knows me all too well and without the help for the traditional Chocolate and Flowers he managed the perfect proposal. With Legos to help and the setting of my favorite Nashville holiday tradition (The Opryland Holiday Display) we got engaged and I proceeded to tell every living soul who would listen about our exciting evening. It was a memory I will always cherish, the life lesson here to all those who intend to propose to someone is make it personal...make it special because you only get one shot! Bill know me well enough to make his proposal amazing and I will always be thankful for his attention to the tiny details that make life so great.

Alright, Alright no more mushy lovely stuff for tonight. Before I go I want to leave all of you Brides and Brides To Be my budget tip discovery from today. Are you ready??? Coke Points, yes everyone each bottle cap you toss in the trash is money down the drain...use those points! If you put in the maximum number of Coke Points each week for 3 weeks you can get a 1 Year Subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine...it's 265 Coke Points. When Wedding Magazines can cost between 3.99-9.99 an issue on newsstands why not collect your friends and family’s unused Coke Points and get one delivered to you for the Cost of a soft drink you already drink?!?

Well I'm off to spend some quality time with my fabulous fiancé...have a great night kids!!! 1 Year, 7 Months and 7 Days.

Who knew Bridal Books Could Be So Entertaining

Hello Kids...

I'm back for another late in the evening edition of the 10 Thousand Dollars & 1 Vegas Wedding Blog. Tonight I'm beat from a long day so I sat down to flip through some of the Bridal Books I have acquired in the past few months. Tonight's oh so entertaining book is: Fortune-Telling Book For Brides...oh yeah it's fortune time!!!

The Engagement:

In this section I'll be able to discover my fortune based on the how of our engagement...I thought the lego part of our engagement was enough to tell me that our union would be pure awesome...but there's more...

"Hidden Ring - If your engagement ring was hidden in something (a champagne flute, a box of chocolates), your life together will be full of excitement. Expect many happy surprises in the years to come"...My ring was hidden in the Lego Holiday Top Shop Set...and yes it did take me a minute or two to see the ring...it was perfect!!!

As I progress through the wedding planning process I can find a fortune attached to each little detail...yes even food choice has a fortune. Bill and I love Bacon so here's a fortune for serving Bacon as wedding food...

"Bacon - Serve bacon at your wedding, and wealth is just around the corner"...that just makes our Bacon cravings even better...Go Bacon!!!

If you are a Bride or know a Bride I highly recommend this fun little Book...not only will it amuse you it's also Blue and every Bride needs something Blue :)

To find Fortune-Telling Book For Brides just check out www.chroniclebooks.com or your favorite search engine.

I'm off to have more Bridal Book adventures...check back for more of my recommendations and wedding planning insight. Just think 1 Year, 7 Months and 8 Days until I'm a wife :)

Where-O-Where to find Earth Money?!?

Hello Kids...

Sorry it's so late it has been a rough day. I'm still trying to get back into the swing of school and had some errands to run before the evil migraine fairy came to visit. But I'm here now and that's what matters.

As I began thinking of ways to earn and save 10 Thousand Dollars I turned immediately to 3 online sources for making those bits of coveted Earth Money: eBay, Etsy and mark. I've tried my hand at each of these but have by far had the most success with eBay.

eBay...
My closets are filled with treasure that needs to go so Bill can have someplace to put his stuff and more so to help me pay for the wedding so last night I started selling for the wedding on eBay. I grabbed two items that were not hidden too far back in the closet and updated my auctions to help explain why my most treasured items must find new homes. It's weird sometimes knowing that you send your items full of memories to new homes where they will be refilled with new memories. I guess that's the deal with recycling. If you are curious about my eBay treasures feel free to take a look, the more closet I explore the more treasures I post.

Etsy...
I'm new to Etsy...I've managed to sell 2 items to a very supportive relative which means I need to perfect my Etsy skills ASAP. Etsy for those who have not encountered it is a place to get handmade goods and on some occasions handmade horrors. I personally offer steampunk watch-part jewelry on my Etsy page. Sparkling Rage Time Shoppe was started when I decided to create some watch-part jewelry for myself and my fiancees little sister, with the left over watch-parts I made a line of earrings and necklaces for Etsy, mainly to avoid wasting those awesome watch-parts. I let them sit and used the first sale to cover books for this semester but now I'm back in the drivers seat and hoping to sell the rest of the Sparkling Rage Time Shoppe line to help pay for the wedding. I've even offered a discount of 15 Bucks off each piece to help entice the buyers into shopping as a way to celebrate my next big step in life. As with eBay I'm sharing the link with you curious readers :)

mark...
meetmark.com to be exact!!! I became a mark rep last year and have had about as much luck as the person who finds the dog pile rather then the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have placed fliers all over my campus and offered free shipping codes all the way to one sale, that purchase was made by my mom (Thanks Mom You Rock). I'm not sure how this stuff doesn't sell itself, I mean it's an online store full of fabulous Clothing, Jewelry, Accessories, Skin Care Products and Make-Up. Mark is the hip new arm of Avon and I am successful at selling tons of great products to myself...I love the stuff, I cannot get enough but I'm no door to door or party throwing sales women so it's been hard. Of course that all changes now, I've got my updated eBoutique and a goal that must be reached so this time it's gonna work for me!!! Of all my online Earth Money making websites this one is the coolest, the options are endless and you can shop from anywhere...I hope you'll check it out...and if you do I recommend the Glossblossom Lip Tint :) I must say they really do offer some awesome items.

Well kids today's update must come to a close, I have reading and a lunch to pack so I can get to class tomorrow. Have a great evening and stop back for a visit any time. 1 Year, 7 Months and 9 Days to go ;)

1 Year, 7 Months & 10 Days

Hello Kids...

Today I have begun the huge process of saving 10 Thousand Dollars for my Vegas Wedding. And with this HUGE task ahead of me I have decided to share the journey with those who may find my process helpful or at least intriguing.

To begin here are some things to know:

* I am getting married in 1 Year, 7 Months and 10 Days.
* I am getting married in Vegas because I've wanted to be a Vegas Bride since I was a child.
* I am a Grad Student who works 1 day a week at a restaurant.
* My fiancee is helping me laugh along this crazy journey.
* I've been a home owner for less then a year.
* I am looking at major lifestyle cutbacks to pay for this crazy wedding.

The Budget:

* Wedding: 1,000 Bucks
* Reception: 5,000 Bucks
* Photographer: 1,000 Bucks
* Travel and Misc. Costs: 3,000 Bucks
* TOTAL - 10,000 Bucks

With all of this in mind and a ZERO balance in the Wedding Bank Account I need to save $16.90 a day, everyday until the wedding!!! That number looks so very small right now but the question I'm trying to answer is, what can I sacrifice in order to save that $16.90 a day?

I invite you all to leave suggestions or questions. Nice comments are always welcome too. And as always I'll keep you posted as I make this journey towards 10 Thousand Dollars & 1 Vegas Wedding :)
